Sugar Land office employees,

After weighing a number of factors, Fluor Management has decided to delay development of a new office campus in Sugar Land. We have renewed a lease with the owners of our current facility and will remain here for the near term.

I know this will come as a disappointment to some of you who have seen plans and renderings of the new building and were looking forward to the relocation. This decision was not made lightly.

For the past few years, our business overall and on the Gulf Coast has been challenging, as many of our Clients have cut their spending and slowed their decision-making process. Some of the new work that we anticipated hasn’t materialized and, as a result, this office has contracted.

Fluor Management determined that now is not the right time for an investment in the new campus, which would create short-term stress on Fluor’s cash and debt positions. So we have paused that process.

Looking to the future, however, we have reasons to be optimistic. We had strong new awards in the last two quarters. Our oil and gas Clients are beginning to ramp up capital spending, and we are well-positioned to win our share of upcoming new work.

When our markets rally, we will resume our plans for the new facility and relocation.
What can you do in the meantime? Remain focused on Fluor’s Core Values, in particular executing with excellence and safety. Adopt new tools as they roll out in support of Fluor’s data-centric execution approach. Strive for flawless personal performance as we serve our Clients, our stakeholders and our community.
Be assured that we are fully committed to growing our business in Sugar Land for the long term, and to providing a state-of-the-art facility for you, our valued employees.

Thank you for your hard work in these tough times, and for your continued commitment to Fluor.
